What is DTF printing?

DTF stands for direct-to-film. Your design is printed onto a special film, coated with an adhesive powder, cured, and then heat pressed onto the garment. The result is a flexible, full-color print that bonds to the fabric.

Why we use DTF

  • Unlimited colors. Photos, gradients, and fine lines print in a single pass, with no charge per color.
  • No minimum. There are no screens to burn, so one shirt costs far less to set up than with traditional screen printing.
  • Works on many fabrics. Cotton, polyester, and blends, including T-shirts, hoodies, and polos.
  • Durable. Prints stay flexible and hold up to regular washing when cared for properly.

Caring for DTF printed shirts

  • Wash inside out in cold water
  • Tumble dry low or hang dry
  • Don't iron directly over the print

Frequently asked questions

Is DTF better than screen printing?

It depends on the job. DTF is ideal for full-color designs, small and mid-size runs, and mixed garments. Screen printing can be cheaper for very large runs of simple one- or two-color designs.

What file should I send for DTF printing?

A high-resolution PNG with a transparent background, or a vector file like PDF, SVG, AI, or EPS, works best. Send what you have and we will let you know if it needs touch-ups.

Does a DTF print crack or peel?

Quality DTF prints are flexible and bond well to fabric. Washing inside out in cold water and drying on low helps them last.
